For over twenty years Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts has been delivering innovative educational opportunities to youth, adults, and seniors throughout the Borough of Queens. The focus of our education department is to provide quality arts education programming that develops and promotes the value of the arts across all age groups and cultures in our community.
For Schools:
The Education Department currently serves approximately fifty schools and over four thousand students annually in New York City. We offer workshops and/or residencies with qualified teaching artists who bring their expertise in visual arts, music, dance, and theater into the classroom. Student groups frequently come to Flushing Town Hall to view our visual arts gallery, enjoy a workshop, or take an interpretive walking tour of local landmarks that hold both local and national significance in American history. Flushing Town Hall also provides a performance series of music, dance, puppetry and theater crafted especially for students. The purpose of the series is to introduce students to artistic excellence in a variety of art forms with diverse cultural influences. Tickets are $6.50 per student with one free adult chaperone ticket for every 10 students.
All of our educational programs and activities support the NYS Learning Standards in the Arts and vary, depending on content of the offering, in their ability to support English Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science, and Technology, and Physical Education. Our programs can also support the NYC Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts in Dance, Theater, Music, and the Visual Arts.
If you are a teacher or school administrator interested in receiving a brochure that lists all our school programs and performances or would like to book a class, please send your request and contact info to: education@flushingtownhall.org
For Senior Centers:
The Education Department currently serves over forty senior centers annually. Our teaching artists facilitate on-site workshops and/or residencies at senior centers in dance, music, visual arts, and East Asian arts. We also provide tickets and transportation for senior groups to attend any performance during our regular season. All of these programs are completely free and supported in part by the Department for the Aging.
If you are a Center Director or administrator interested in booking tickets for your senior group, please use the registration form below. For more information about our senior arts programs or booking a teaching artist send your contact info and requested dates to: education@flushingtownhall.org

For Community Members and Families:
Flushing Town Hall has provided numerous workshops, events, and performances over the years to promote the arts in Queens and develop the artistic abilities and creativity of its citizens. Due to recent budget restrictions and loss of funding we will not be offering Music for Tots or our Saturday Morning for Families series this year. For our 2008/2009 season we will be offering weekend performances of family-friendly shows that are preceded or followed by an arts workshop that explores the forms and themes of the production. These exciting workshops in most cases will be led by the artists and provide a great hands-on opportunity for you and others to have fun learning from the professionals.
If you are a parent or a community member interested in learning more about our performances and workshops, please send your request and contact info to: education@flushingtownhall.org
For Teaching Artists:
Flushing Town Hall employs teaching artists from all professional art disciplines to work with every age group in a variety of settings. If you want to be considered for future opportunities at Flushing Town Hall please send a cover letter stating your interests and a resume that outlines your professional teaching and artistic experience to: education@flushingtownhall.org
