Our Spotlight Series for Students season 2010-2011 will showcase award-winning contemporary and traditional dance, jazz, international puppetry, theatre and storytelling. School performances happen during the weekday and are generally no longer than an hour and always include a short facilitated dialogue between students and performers. Tickets are $6.50 per student with one free adult chaperone ticket for every 10 students.
Interested in a pre-show and/or post-show workshops for your students? For an additional cost schools can arrange for pre- and or post-show workshops or a residency with quality FCCA teaching artists who will provide your students with an interactive, hands-on arts learning experiences to prepare them for and/or follow up the performance they see at Flushing Town Hall.

School Performance: For Students (Grades 6 – 12): Interactive and educational performance of blues standards highlighting the unique uses of improvisation and scatting. Led by award-winning performer, conductor, composer, and educator Wycliffe Gordon. Starts at 10am and 11:30am.

School Performance: For Students (Grades 3 – 12): Vibrant and timeless choreography danced with remarkable humor, emotion, and athleticism, from one of the great masters of modern dance, Paul Taylor. Starts at 10am and 11:45am.

School Performance: For Students (Grades K – 12): Experience a captivating blend of traditional and modern costumed dances, including the popular Fan Dance, accompanied by live traditional music and rhythms.

School Performance: For Students (Grades K – 12): A high energy and heart-pounding interactive performance of stepping, a unique form of percussive dance where the entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds. Starts at 10am and 11:45am.
School Performance: For Students (Grades 3 – 12): Endearing adaptation of Jean Giono’s inspiring short story that shows the impact one man (and his dog!) can make on their environment. A wonderful multi-sensory theatre experience of storytelling and puppetry. Starts at 10am and 11:45am.

School Performance: For Students (Grades Pre-K – 5): Forbidden to have a pet, Darryl smuggles a "pet" rock into his cluttered room. The rock hatches to reveal a tiny dinosaur with an incredible appetite. A laugh-out-loud tale with a lesson or two about being responsible. Winner of the UNIMA Citation of Excellence in the Art of Puppetry. Starts at 10am and 11:30am.

School Performance: For Students (Grades 6 – 12): Master storyteller David Gonzalez brings to life an Orpheus who scats, swings, and serenades his way through a gauntlet of ordeals in search of his beloved Eurydice. Loss, struggle, and redemption -- a captivating adaptation of a classic Greek myth. Plus, a contemporary retelling of The Three Whiskers of the Lion, a Korean folktale. Accompanied by jazz piano virtuoso Daniel Kelly. Starts at 10am and 11:30am.
