Touched by Women's Hands
Wed Nov 28th - Sun Jan 20th
2007-2008
Contemporary Chinese art has become hot in the global art market. However, most Chinese artists are men with teams of assistants working for them. While technology plays an important part in the trendy art scene, there is a small but strong group of Chinese women artists in New York who create their art differently ?with their own hands. They use age-old methods, traditional materials and objects found in nature to give substance to their dreams and imaginings, making a connection with the natural world. The rules they find embedded in nature reappear in their artwork in a multitude of ways, speaking passionately with visual impact but with a contemporary touch that is both subtle and natural.

ANTIQUE DOOR & WINDOWS EXHIBIT

This exhibit, on loan from the private collection of Thomas Chen, president of Crystal Window & Door Systems, brings to life the development of Chinese windows and doors as architectural elements, infused with ancient culture, philosophy and symbolism.

Member Opening Reception: Saturday, March 7, 2009, 2pm Gallery Hours: Saturdays and Sundays, Noon to 5 pm Over the course of the past several years, the idea of political change has dominated the news. While political change might seem to occur at about the pace of molasses in January, change is a real constant in all of our lives. From the natural world to the emotional and psychological landscape, change occurs regularly. Seasonal shifts and emotional storms re-order our private, and sometimes public, worlds. The artwork presented in this show by Long Island City Artists makes visible the subject, effect and context of change. While many of us trust our world to remain recognizable from day to day, many of us recognize how radically changed the world is from day to day.
